In 2020, as health and care systems were responding to the unprecedented challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic, there was a growing recognition that many of the most complex issues facing communities could not be solved by organisations working in isolation. There was a need to build leadership capacity across whole systems, bringing together people from different organisations, sectors and communities to work collectively on shared challenges.
With support from the NHS North West Leadership Academy, Collaborate Out Loud CIC worked with partners across East Lancashire to co-design, deliver and evaluate an innovative system leadership programme in Pendle East. The programme sought to explore how people with formal leadership roles and those with informal influence within communities could come together in a democratised space to share power, build relationships and create change.
At its heart was a simple but powerful question ‘What becomes possible when we bring together the “usual suspects” and the “unusual suspects” to learn, lead and solve problems together’?
